Exclusive annual celebration honors the world’s most influential people

On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the TIME 100 Gala unfolded at New York City’s Jazz at Lincoln Center. More than 400 luminaries walked the red carpet — artists, entertainers, politicians, innovators, captains of industry and revolutionaries from around the globe. This annual gala celebrates the TIME 100 list of the most influential people in the world.

The star-studded evening included a keynote speech by Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton, remarks by comedian Stephen Colbert and performances by Rihanna and Raphael Saadiq. A small group of TIME 100 honorees gave toasts, including Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
